Hello. I have moved into a 5 year old house. The internal doors are a mess, gloss all over the metalwork/hinges, creak, general poor quality etc. I want to replace them all. Some of the doors in the house are fire doors due to it being a town house and these doors have some strange looking hinges on. See picture...

There is a stamp on the hinge saying "ASSA" if this helps.

I would like to source some new ones or some similar if anyone can recomend any. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Thanks.
Michael

Yes I have tried their website previously. I will mail them a photo.

If anyone else has any insight to these type of hinges that would be great.

Try the Assa / Abloy website.

Clue, the name ASSA one of the biggest European lock and ancillary manufacturers.

Tried that too. The website is rubbish in terms of product and finding out anything about it. I will send them a photo also.

Typical speed-fix, routered out stuff that cheap jack sites love.

The rounded corners on the hinges make it easy for a router to chanel out the hinge cut-out.

Sorry, do you mean they are a crappy system which is designed for builders to throw them up in 2 minutes?

I wanted to replace them with nice quality stainless steel 4" fire door hinges, would it be difficult to do due to how deep the channel has been routed out? I have a feeling the decent fire doors are ruined because of this and can only be used with the current type of hinges?

Forgive my amateur understanding of this...

Almost all Assa products have beveled edges, that does not mean poor quality.
If you want to fit butts in place there should be no issue.
Those Assa hinges are fire rated.

They are Assa 2465 fire hinges and are in 2 seperate leaves - the door leaf and frame blade. There is also a newer compatible version - the 2010.

Take a look at pages 27 (446) 28 (447) and 29 (448) of this pdf:

All you have to do now is find a supplier, unless you do change the type altogether. (I don't know whether that is feasible myself so will let the experts help you out there! )

EDIT: Looks like the frame blade is available on eBay but not the door leaf:

These look very much like the pre-hung door hinges used by a national house builder (name similar to a burger chain) which I did some work for recently.

Their suppliers were National Hickman, might be worth a try there.

Cheers for all the replies. Much appreciated. Im not happy with the look of the Assa ones although i believe they are available in "steel" but I think il have a job finding them. My house has 10 doors, only 5 are fire doors so for these I might get someone in to estimate the job and advise on some nice stainless 4" butt replacements.

If anyone can recommend a decent joiner/door specialist around Newcastle/Gateshead that would be great.
