Unfortunately when I was removing a light switch, two cables came loose, and I am unsure how to correctly re-wire them. I have attached two images. "Known" shows how the wires work at each light switch and shows the switch in the middle where I don't know how to reconnect it correctly.

The "current" image shows how I have left the circuit at the moment, the only light which doesn't work is the upstairs landing as there is not current flowing to it.

I would be very grateful if someone could review the diagrams and advise the correct way for me to rewire the lighting switch.

Those drawings must be incomplete - as they are neither of them show any way for the landing light to receive a switched live, no matter how the various conductors are connected.

Where are all these switches? Why, if only one switch was affected, have you now fiddled with the wiring at other switches?

Many thanks for your reply. I haven't changed the wiring into the other two switches. I unscrewed them took photos and then marked the attached plans. So the light switch to the left of the diagram in the hall is unchanged and the light switch to the right of the diagram on the landing is also unchanged. The middle light switch is at the bottom of the stairs. I can upload the photos if that would be of any help. The light in the hall which is operated by the left hand switch in the diagram and the middle switch works perfectly but as you say finding a way to connect the landing light seems impossible.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look i really do appreciate it.

Are we looking at all separate one gang plates or have we some dgs or tgs?
Pictures please, you do need a live at the middle landing switch.

As said, we need to know if some of those switches are on seperate faceplates, or 2 or 3 gang faceplates.

Also, were there any short lengths of wire, known as 'link' wires, you have not mentioned?

Thanks all. Hopefully i will try to answer your questions.

There were no short link wires.

The left hand switch in the diagram is a single face plate with two switches. One switch operates the outside light. The second switch operates the downstairs hall light.

The middle switch is a single face plate with two switches. One operates the down stairs hall and the other the upstairs landing.

The right hand switch which is upstairs is a single switch.

Brilliant. That has worked perfectly. I am really grateful for you taking the time to think about this and mark up the drawing so clearly.

Thanks to others in the feed who also helped get clarity on the problem.
