Adjusting UPVC door

P

Phill Peck

Hi I have a UPC front door and recently it doesn't shut properly.

The door hits the frame at the bottom first so unless I lift the handle to engage the locks it is drafty and also it is not easy to lift and engage to I don't want to do damage to the mechanisms.

Is this simple to adjust or is it best to get a pro

This is the hinge, with te door open I can see 2 large screws on each hinge

Yuk horrible hinge, as found on many B&Q and Wickes doors.

If the large screws are pozi's then if you turn these they move the hinge pin sideways, they'll onl turn 180 degrees side to side, assuming the door is catching on the threshold i.e. along the bottom frame as opposed to the side then use the adjustment on the bottom hinge and wind it so it moves the door over to the locking side letting it pivot on the other 2 hinges, this will have the effect of tilting the door up, to get more of an effect you can use the top hinge and go the other way toward the hinge side, again using the middle hinge as the pivot point...............but remember, while doing all of this keep checking that the door locks, one adjustment at a time, its pretty critical how far the door is away from the frame and it can take only a few millimetres for it to stop working so check at each stage so you don't end up in a muddle

Doesn't surprise me,
The double glazing was about the only thing done before I moved in and it's not great.

I'm not planning on staying much longer otherwise I would replace it again

Hi just been trying to do this and the screws don't seem to adjust the wa I need it to.

I think I need the bottom hinge to go away from the frame to pull the top opposite corner in, but the screw only go side to side not in and out if that makes sense?

Maybe I'll call a pro there is a local guy I've used before to repair my sliding door

The screw does not screw in or out, it is fixed and acts like a cam and moves the hinge pin instead, at a guess you'll only have half a turn side to side

From outside the hinge is on the left and the top right corner is away

To my mind the bottom hinge needs to move away to pull the top in but the screws only allow for squaring the door within the frame so no matter how much I adjust the top is still away
