1. You need to remove the chrome plate.
2. There may well be a grub screw under the black part (probably Allen headed) to prevent the cartridge from turning. If so, loosen / remove it but don't lose it.
3. If in doubt, send photographs of the valve pre-disassembly and as above to showerdoc.com and see if they can identify the make and model.
