  • Hi
When I stuck in issue, I prefer to search your suggested solution. I myself a structural engineer but with limited knowledge. I have a 300 mm cavity wall to support with 152 beam with 8mm plate on top. BC has asked for calculation to verify top plate. I don't know how I can provide calcs for plate against line load.I tried to do plate design in tekla tedds. Any suggestion or any manual calculation?
    Thanks
Hi Tony. Could you please look at the conversation I started yeaterday. Ineed some advice please. Thank you
Hello Tony, just wondering if you would consider mentoring and engineer on his route to Charter status? Need someone with more experience in the UK to bounce ideas and have a second point of view. Let me know.

Hi CF, Thanks for your p/m.
Really sorry but I'm not at present able to do this due to time constraints in having to look after an elderly parent :<(
Hi Tony thanks for the reply. The outer skin is good brickwork. When you said about the smaller padstones, did you mean they should go on the outside as well as the ones I have on the inside. Or we’re they adequate for the inside instead of the ones I have already put in . If the architect gets what he wants = 440x300w x 215 h padstone. Is that ok bridging the cavity
Hi Tony . Can you help with a bit of advice please. Am fitting a 3 m double steel with 75mm cavity. I have put a 440 x 100x 215 padstone on each side of the inner leaf , but no padstones on the outside. The architect has said he wants 440 L x 275 w x 215 h padstone. So that it covers the whole cavity. Do you think that’s a bit extreme. Plus with the steel sitting 150mm .there will be 300mm left of padstone bridging

Hi Tomo, I think that's extreeeeme!! Are there engineers calcs for the beams and padstones? At 3m span they won' t be carrying much load, particularly on the outer skin. I would have thought a 215 long x 100 wide by 140 high padstone would be adequate if the outer skin is brick.
Hi Tony, I'm thinking about turning a little part of the loft into a games room. There's going to be a small computer table and an office chair. What would I need to do to strengthen the loft floor please.
Hi Tony, I would like to install a 1.66m wide*2.39m high French door on my rear external 30's 225mm solid wall. I'm wondering what is the limit on the French door opening height and the return from the corner? total UDL~ 45kn unfactored (conservative). I would appreciate your advice. Thanks
    Hi tony1851

I would like to more deep into the solutions for rear house extensions solutions, deciding between simple supporting steel beam, goal post frame and box steel frame. Off course the openings are most of the time bigger than 3m wide...
    Thanks
    King regards
No - I was not away when they did physics at school. But I'd love to know where you think the heat is going to come from which would otherwise be radiated FROM the surface of the insulation which is facing the warm space.
