depends how many there are in the house and how big the house is, give me a few details and I'll do my best for you, have you got a header tank in the loft or is everything direct fed, if you have a mega flow system (direct feed) you'll need a high flow softener, if not a standard unit will do, let me know how many people/kids in the house, how many bedrooms and I'll work out what you need

Haga, thx, it has a grey hood, so looks as if I am looking for a new one. Can you recommend a good reliable one please?

Hiya, depends on how old it is, has it got grey hoods or blue, if it has grey hoods then I'd say get rid of it and buy a new one as it's probably 8/12 years old, life span of most softeners is 10/12 years. If it has blue hoods then go for the £160 option, they will replace the valve and electronics with the new millenium valve and give you a full years guarantee for all parts, call out and labour, it sounds expensive but if any thing goes wrong it wont cost you anything. E2 is an electronic error code, my guess is a seal has leaked onto the electronics and they have shorted out, the softener has probably never been serviced, every 3 years (ish) is my advise.

Hi hope you don't mind the direct approach?

I saw on a thread that you are a Culligan Engineer, can you please help? I have moved into a house with an MC250 which doesn't seem to be working, the easiest way I can describe it is the machine looks as if it has been sick with salt all over the place and an error code of of E2.

From what I have read do I take a gamble on the £85 call out charge and hope it is an easy repair, or go for the all in chrage of £160 OR buy a new machine?
