Hi UselessMan (and others suffering the same problem). Two weeks ago my builder removed the GRP upstand to get at the edge of the decking boards - he trimmed these (where they butted up against adjacent walls) to give the deck room to expand. I have in the meantime been away on holiday - back last Saturday. The result, sadly, is that the work has not improved the situation. The noise is worse (not because of the work done but due to the increasing strength of the sun as the year wears on.
I am fairly sure that the problem is due to the fact that the deck is firmly fixed at dozens of points to the heavy structural beams under the insulation. This arrangement resists the inevitable expansion of the deck resulting in the whole roof structure buckling/lifting. The accompanying noise, as reported by others, is quite alarming.
My builder will be visiting together with other professionals soon. They will then decide on the next course of action. I will, as promised before, let you know if any progress is made....
