Can someone spread some light on how these various bits are supposed to go?

Is the 'O' ring, the upper seal or the rubber gasket?

What is the white plastic piece for? Itsnot mentioned at all in the parts list or fitting instructions.

Thanks

The plastic washer is for thin metal sinks or if you want a tighter fit. The other parts are as specified in the diagram, the O ring on the top side of the worktop/sink, the thicker one on the underside, above the metal bracket.

Blup.

So, it would go like this would it?

Are you sure? It looks to me like the profiled rubber ring (the one on the left in the first pic) mates with the base of the tap. And the O-ring would sit nicely in the recess in the horseshoe washer.

Exactly that. ( just like I said lol)
Now I'm confused. Or are you being sarcastic?

In your first comment you said that the o ring sits in the tap.

Also, where does the large plastic bit go, if the metal bit and rubber seal / gasket sit up against the sink?

Surely, you'd have tap, then o ring ( or other seal), then sink face, then seal / o ring, then plastic spacer then, holding it all.in place, the metal bit. The nut goes on the outside of the metal bit.

Tap,rubber washer on base of tap, then sink, then plastic washer, the other washer in groove of metal bit.metal bit after plastic bit.
(Plastic onto sink underneath)
As you put the metal bit on the thread goes through the small round hole and then the nut onto the thread and tighten it all up.

That makes no sense. The second rubber is supposed to be seal. Unless it's up against the sink, then it's not doing anything.

I'd have thought tap, then other seal (not the O-ring), then sink face, then plastic spacer, then O-ring, then holding it all in place, the metal bit (horseshoe washer). But somebody might correct me.
The plastic spacer is to give more rigidity if it's a thin stainless steel sink.

But which rubber washer is which?
