Can you post a photo of the boiler and pipework in the garage further back? Or internet search a motorised valve and have a look if you have one on the system. As an aside, your hot water cylinder is lacking in some foam insulation, you might want to invest in a cylinder jacket to prevent heat loss.

So, maybe best get someone in, to whom, it's old hat!
Someone better than whoever threw plastic pushfit fittings in everywhere!

It's another lash up I've seen tonight on here.

No wonder people have Heating problems!
Still... You get what's paid for I suppose.
Yeah, I've never had an install look like this. I'd still have bought t4 house, but I'd have got the engineer in before moving in for sure.

Added photo to original post.

Thanks for helping
I'm afraid after your photo, I have to agree with...
Looks a lash up with the plastic fittings so, who knows what could be wrong with it! Needs looking at by someone who knows what they're looking for (and not).
Together with the lash up of pipework, you also have potentially dangerous electrical connections...

This needs sorting by a professional.

But again, did you find the cause of the trip?

If you can afford it.
Get someone in to sort it properly else you'll be firefighting forevermore.
Thanks to everyone who has posted. Sincerely appreciate it.

I have ADHD and stuff like this just overwhelms the heck out of me. I've tried to educate myself on most things being female and on my own, but it isn't easy.

The property is a 3 bedroom loft converted bungalow. 1 bathroom upstairs, 1 downstairs.

What would be the best course of replacement? What would you recommend in terms of best boiler type, siting, etc.

It'll be helpful to approach the engineers with a plan of sorts.

Thanks,

Ok, 2 bathrooms - if you intend to use simultaneously then a combi is generally out of the question as it would struggle to cope with 2 draw offs at the same time.

You could keep the existing setup and maybe just bring it up to a standard with an S-plan. You could upgrade the cylinder if needed, boiler upgrade might not be required yet. An unvented cylinder could be an investment, but thy require annual servicing too.

Just engage with an engineer or 2, work out a feel for them and go from there. If they try and sell you a combi, show them the door. Some are accredited installers with manufacturers meaning they can offer longer warranties. Boilers aren’t what they used to be, some are better than others, some are just pure garbage. Stay away from Biasi, Ferroli and maybe a few others.

Thanks, I think the boiler looks quite aged so would prefer to upgrade. I'd also like a better thermostat and more functionality between the two so I can see fault codes, programmable temperature settings etc.

Thanks for the hint about the combi, that would've been my first choice, having had them previously. Didn't realise they'd struggle with 2 bathrooms.

Thanks,

If you keep the setup with a cylinder, you'll always have the backup of an immersion heater if boiler or gas is out of action.

If you can get an unvented cylinder with appropriate cold main supply and pressure right up to cylinder location, then you won't need any shower pumps as your hot water will be mains pressure.

Get a couple of people in and mention system boiler with unvented cylinder.

Ask at local plumbers merchants (independent not nationwide) if they have someone they can recommend who been busy in the area.

Where about are you? Nearest town? Maybe someone on here near to you.

We can recommend guys who are in the combustion chamber part of this site.
