I bought a 6-¼ in Bailey block plane and found that the blade doesn’t come out evenly.

The photo is the edge where the blade slides down. The edge thickness is not parallel. Is this a normal design? I am new to a block plane usage. I would appreciate to have an advice.

Thanks,

It’s a bit difficult to see exactly but I’d suggest the blade hasn’t been ground flat.
Can we have a pic or two of the blade itself, do you think?
John

Thank you.

Hopefully, I am providing enough information.
The blade is almost 2mm thick and looks parallel.

I’m trying to find a YouTube video or website with a good reference for the block plane set up but still not.

I would appreciate to hear if this plane is ok or have any trouble.

Thanks,

Sadly I'm afraid I agree with jj.......it would appear that the 'lands' - the guides where the blade slides - haven't been machined too well.
Excellent pictures, thanks!
John :)

Thank you all!

At least I can get to know the situation, that’s great!
I’m a diy man so I can try arrange this.

I filed the part of the plane. I think the blade now comes out evenly. Can you once again take a look at the pictures to see the plane works OK?

That plane is now working splendidly, well done!
It seems you have filed the throat of the plane.....it shouldn’t have been necessary at all, but a slight easing and the blade now comes out parallel.
I can see a slight bowing at the slot centre but if I had done that I’d be well pleased!
Regards
John
