Labour’s new 'worship tax' could see 1,000 historical buildings close

This country is definitely under attack. These buildings are historic and part of our heritage. I go to different churches too, many of them are community places for people to meet regardless of religion.

Every time Labour do something, I think it is the last straw. I couldn't despise them more. Get them out.

The ironic thing is, under a labour government more people will be praying than ever!

You couldn’t make it up.
its best you check your facts

as usual its Daily Express bolox

there wont be any need for any historical buildings to close...........the government package announced for 2025/26 is hardly any different to the amount that was claimed in the previous years budget

Most projects are below £5,000

Sir Chris told MPs while £42m was available for the scheme last year, only £29m was claimed.
He said 94% of applications since the scheme was introduced have been below £25,000, and more than 70% below £5,000.

How long should we prop up a decrepit state organisation that's increasingly out of touch with the population and trying to hold onto a position that is no longer tenable. Funding churches that house more pigeons than people for sentiment alone is a mugs game.

You clearly haven't been to a church for a very long time. Where I am, many provide a range of different community services which are not religious but seek to help vulnerable groups of people including those that are drug/alcohol addicted, homeless, etc. They also help the elderly, the infirm and those who are lost mentally, emotionally.

but seek to help vulnerable groups of people
My parish church helps asylum seekers, they are vulnerable groups of people

Asylum Seekers and Refugees

Since November 2021, our village has been hosting many asylum seekers and refugees who are temporarily residing at our local hotels. Many of these individuals and families will eventually be processed and located in other forms of accommodation. Ever since their arrival St John’s Church has been keen to add value to their stay in our village. We have supported them with emergency clothing and goods as well have supported the children to find appropriate schooling. We offer several translation opportunities during our church services and run an International Café also known as the I-Café set up by a group of local volunteers aimed to help many of our local Refugees and Asylum Seekers in learning English

So move to supporting other religions?

You just get worse.

wow, it is a small world.

Actually I grew up in Edenbridge, went to Tunbridge Wells for school and had a house and factory in East Grinstead, I only moved to Copthorne in 2008 when I met my wife. I live pretty much in the centre of the village not far from the village green.

I know all those places but only to visit. Tunbridge Wells is good for shopping. I used to go clubbing in East Grinstead as a young un, I can't remember the name of the place off the top of my head or if it is still there for that matter. Is the Cherry Tree pub still going in Copthorne?

On of my childhood dogs Leo came from the rescue charity in Edenbridge.

Good God, we have had 14 years of the Tories screwing the country and we have the tory boys on here saying they want labour out as if everything is their fault

I am no fan of starmer but people clearly have short memories or .....are just tory boys who are hurting and will be for at least ten years

Hopefully labour and the liberals will join up , form a new middle ground party and keep the Tories and the reform nutters out for years and years
