Hi All,
The transformer has reached its end of life in the panel for the security alarm system, It was put in 2006, when the estate was built. The electrician said its the transformer, i am struggling to find one as they are no longer made, is there any other transformers i can use?

What makes you think it’s the transformer ?
More than likely it’s due to the 18 year old battery fitted !
What state is the battery charging resistor located under the plastic keypad mount ?

I'm Honestly not sure what's wrong with it, its hard to remember but its had the power light off on the panel and alarms etc (although there is a live current going to the circuit that part is all okay) If i remember right their was a red light on the tamper light before it just fully turned all lights off i think that could be a service reminder? My electrician, who fitted it when we built the house said its the transformer but that he doesn't do alarms anymore (so it may not be) but if it was the battery, surely the panel would be working fine until the power was isolated? Do you think it is the battery?

I read something saying the battery could be so low its draining the mains power before it can go to the pannel?
What are the chances? Mainly the battery or do you think its the tranformer?

It’s not a guessing game …. Step by step …. Check ….mains input 240v AC …yes/no ….transformer output ….20v AC ….yes no ….ect ….
Again if the battery charging resistor is burnt out , what’s the point in fitting a replacement transformer as the panel is no good anyway !

Hi, Thanks for all your help with all this!
"The transformer has gone no voltage on the output side." Is what my electrician has now said, Unfortunatly, im struggling to find the exact transformer do you know if any other will work (i dont want to replace the pannel if i dont need to- i would also change the batteries)

I have an optima XL6 it will be 30 years old in November, worked like a dream, I do replace the battery every 5 years regardless of what it's like

Feel the battery, if it's warm, then the chances are high.

Thanks all, I will start a maintenance program to replace batteries ect, how often on google it said every year, i think for domestic bungalow that is too often, every 5 yrs? that sounds good?

Yes mate good plan, I have bungalow too
Usually first sign battery has gone is after a power cut, because the battery should keep the settings but if it's gone it can't then when power comes on again the alarm says WTF, and sounds the alarm.

You will always here alarms going off on your street after a power cut....those are the houses with duff batteries.

I get mine of Amazon
If I were you I would get some of those little transparent fuses that are on your circuit board, it's easy to blow one while messing in there, nothing worse than that then discovering you haven't got a replacement

BTW it could be a blown fuse that's stopping your battery charging, worth checking, and if you don't have a meter but have good eyesight you will see the thin wire in the fuse will have blown

I change mine every 5 years without fail, write the date on it when you fit
VERY IMPORTANT

HTH mate
