small area

Hi there, thank you for reading this. Please can anyone recommend a tool to sand some stair stringers? The area is about an inch wide and butted up to a wall (so too small to comfortably use a mouse sander). I'm just a DIYer doing a one-off (I hope) job so don't want to spend a lot - just enough...
