12v switched sorce for scanny 9448?

Im building a device which is activated by 12v being put through a signal wire and stupidly assumed that the bell connection would be 0v until the alarm sounded.

having now built the device and a little bit of head scratching ive come to realise that its constantly 12v...

so can anyone tell me where i can tap into to get a 12v output when the outside bell rings?

If anyone is intrested, the device ive built is called a phantom link, and sends an email alert when it detects an alam acitivation (ie 12v through the signal).

also looking to do the same on a 9752 panel, but im hoping that i can use the 3rd output to do what i need.

just wire a relay across 12v + and trig you can then switch + or - as required.
 
trig as in bell as 12v?

Measured with a multimeter, theres no voltage difference between them, ie at both not ringing, and ringing the trigger seems to be at 12v.

Does it work on current difference/increase and maintain 12v?
 
bell trig is switched 0v so if you need a switched 12v + connect a relay to 12v+ and trig and you can switch 12v+ via the relay.

sorry - probably going to sound really stupid here but:

In alarm condition, the bell should show 0v?
and in normal set/unset, it should show as 12v?

As im not seeing that, though that could be as a result of the alarm not being connected to a bell box?

They weren't when removed the installation last weekend, and as far as i can tell they weren't when i was testing, but i will test them tonight when i get home to check.

Also double checked readings:

0v to 12v is showing as 14v
0v to bell is showing as 14v
0v to strobe is showing as 14v
12v to bell is showing as 0v
12v to strobe is showing 0v


even + (for loud speaker) to 0v is showing 14v.

Im trying to find a 12v switched supply, when the bells ring i want to send 12v to another device.

The measurements given above dont change when the alarm is unset,set or activated.

Happy to put in a relay but as above, putting it between bell and 0v doesnt seem to work if theres no voltage change...
 
How are you doing your tests? The above reading seem correct for normal mode but how are you making the bell 'ring' so to speak.

Think you just hit the nail on the head,
Testing by pressing a bunch of random numbers until it tampers, but I've just realised that the unit rings internally for a set time before outside bell is activated!

Will adjust the timing and try again tonight!

Though I would have thought that the internal siren/speaker would still change? (the LS/+)
 
It sounds like you are not correctly testing the bell output. With your meter connected to 12v and bell trigger, In day mode press 4 then "enter" then your code. This should test the bell output. All you are doing is creating an internal tamper.

Which 9448 is it? Can you describe it.
 
Did as suggested and with bell test when it rings the external bell, 12v and bell has 12v difference!

I assume it will be the same for 9752 scantronic unit too?
 
The bell output on a 9448 will normally be at 12v falling to 0v in alarm. As above, you can connect a transistorised relay between 12v and Bell which will give you a set of clean contacts to switch any voltage you like. The 9752 will be the same as that's how 99% of external sounders are triggered.

You could use the comms harness on the 9752 and use output 3 (burglar output) and invert the outputs using command 159. This terminal should then give you the 0v rising to 12v in alarm that you require. This won't trigger for other events though (eg, Panic, Fire etc)
