I was planning on doing a regular stretcher bond with 140mm blocks. Only problem I'm struggling with is the corners. How I'm doing it leaves a 63mm sliver, which seems like a bit of a nightmare to cut. I was planning on regular concrete blocks, rather than aerated concrete.

Is this how people normally do 140mm block corners? Has anyone got any better diagrams? Am I likely to be able to cut that 63mm sliver of a block accurately with a hammer and chisel?

Cheers for any replies.

Build the corners first and then open the joints? If this makes no sense just ignore me ;)

yes use the slithers (closures)
with practice you could probly cut them ok with a hammer and bolster
but a disc cutter will be neater but more dust

We use a concrete brick if its not on show, laid on end, 20mm in from each side.
If it's pointed you'll have to cut pieces with a disc cutter..

the 65mm closer is fine - but you have missed it out of your diagram on the left hand side
He didn't need it on that side, he just made the blocks a bit longer :)

Actually, on the left hand side I just chopped the 2nd level block at 370mm to that it meets the center of the 1st row block. I don't know why I didn't think of doing that on both sides. Can I not just do that everywhere to not have to cut such short 'closures'?
