The top of my existing patio is level with my dpc but there is a 4" gap filled with shingle between patio and house, the patio also runs towards my house. After reading posts on here I know this isn't ideal, however, I've not had any problems with damp.

I'm talking with contractors about re-laying the existing slabs (that were originally laid on sand  and have moved), they will be picking up the large slabs, digging out, compacting a base MOT Type1, and laying on a solid bed (as per advice on this site - I checked). They will need to barrow everything round the side of my house to the skip on the drive (just a small standard house).

1/. The 1st guy said it would take him and his mate 4 days to remove slabs, dig out, compact sub-base and relay the slabs, the area is 15 foot x 15. he said that would be £1000 in labour alone. Does this sound right?

2/. He said leave the top of the slab at the same as the extg level. Should I insist the slab is lowered to 150mm below dpc (I know it will cost more), or should I leave the height as it is?

Any advice would be appreciated.
