My house was built in 1964. The doors need replaced (mum to 2 teens..........) but the ones in diy stores etc are 3.5cm thick. The present ones are 4cm thick, all approx 198cm in height, with varying widths. I can only get 4cm thick ones in 204cm height; don't think it's possible to saw off 3cm from top and bottom, as the stores say maximum would be 6mm.
Would 3.5cm thick doors look odd in a 4cm thick door frame?
Any advice would be appreciated.

It's going to depend on who does the work, but it's possible. Having fitted the 3.5cm doors, you need to remove and refit the door stops, and then adjust the location hole for the door handle.

It's just the cheap flimsy hollow doors that you can only trim by 6mm. You have more scope to resize proper timber doors
