1996 audi coupe

i have a 1996 audi coupe 2l abk engine, fitted with a auto gearbox code cta.This gearbox has three sensors on the outside caseing.
this gearbox has died.
I have fitted a auto gearbox from a audi 100 with the same engine.code cfx
however this gearbox only has two sensors ,and the box does not change up on a test drive . any ideas (This box was working before i put it in )

maybe you have to set it to the ecu if it has one?

but the next question would be how to reset the ecu.

Dont think there is a cfx........ cta should be interchangable with CLN,CLP, DFJ,DFL,DFM. There is a CFW, CFY and CFV, but they are different.

Did you old gearbox have a dipstick and guide tube?
Has the new one not got it?

Has the one you have got a 7 pin switch on it? 2 pin switch will be for reversing lights

Think you need to source another gearbox with the right code

no the old gearbox does not have a dipstick or guide tube just a small plug over the fill point.
yes it has a muli plug on it as the new box does .
the boxes look the same except for one sensor . its not on the new box.

i think you are right about the same code box required !! but i cannot find one any where .
so it could be scrap now .
