1999 Vectra Fuel tank Leak (petrol)

Hi All,

Does anybody know of a common failure in the Vectra Fuel Tank. I've notice a strong smell of petrol in and out of the car. on investigation I could see a leak path from the top of the tank, I looked under the rear seat and could see some rusting on the metal ring around the tank where the fuel tank sits but couldn't actually find evidence of a leak there. I only really notice the smell when the tank is full (+40 litres), after that it dies down which makes me think the leak is at the top of the tank.

need a fuel tank? i purchased one cheap. Far cheaper than anyone else. done the job.

It could be coming from the top of the tank where the fuel sensor sits. You can usually access this through a hatch under the rear seats. It might just be that needing a new seal, rather than a damaged tank.
