Locally - for a teenager - £1.85 single fare to little city centre 3.5 miles.

...Bus and train operator First has seen profits leap 39 per cent in the past year, it was revealed today...

Not good is it??

been like that for a while for us out of towners :(

But they have only just posted the 39% profit hike ! I guess you mean the cost...
Soon, IF congestion (of the lungs) charging arrives, either our local city will die or 1st bus will be signalled open season on us, the cash cows of Euroville.
:D :D

Theyd have trouble justifying the title "Congestion" Charge as it rarely is that busy around our neck of the woods ;)

First are cutting services on the outskirts of Bristol.

Bristol want the congestion charge,

I wonder if the two are related.

Here's a thing, if i get on a bus at the top of my road (stop is 50 metres from my house) I am forced to get on a local Stagecoach bus, which serves our locality (about 2 miles from town centre). Because it is about 3 stages from the town centre (on their ticket machine), the cost is about £1.20 for an adult.

However, if I walk to the main road (A638) only 200 yards away, I can get on an Arriva bus from Wakefield. Now because its travelled most of its journey (its a 30 mile route), its only one stage from the town centre and therefore only costs about £1. Great stuff. ;)

The same applies to the First south yorkshire buses that serve a locality 2 miles further from the town centre, since again, they have completed more of their journey.

I suspect the same is true of many routes across the country. If you're only travelling a fraction of the buses route, if will cost you less than if you get on a bus that terminates locally to your stop.

Is that why it takes so long Big_All the conveyors going the wrong way

What's a bus? £650 a month to travel to London for me, beat that :(
