Hi All

I have 4mm two core SWA between my consumer unit in the house and a second in the garage, which incidentally is connected to the house. It runs in a concrete floor and would not be easily replaced.

I am currently re-wiring the house and have changed the consumer unit to a split way MK unit. Much better than my old 4 way re-wireable unit. Before anybody asks, i am aware it comes under Part P etc and have already informed building control.

My question is this, I have terminated with the correct gland (after much frustration) into a metal box and am then going to run in 4mm T&E to the MCB in the consumer unit connecting the two cables via 32amp choc blok. The cpc from the T&E continues through a hole in the box and then bolted to the banjo. Is this ok?

Secondly the SWA is in old colours. Can a tape the old cables or use heatshrink to keep the harmonised colouring that runs through the rest of the house? I did have a copy of the on site guide and regs from my mate but he has had to have them back so i can't reference them.

Sorry for the long explanation but i know you guys like plenty of information.

Cheers

Make sure the garage feed is correctly protected. You can sleeve, or you can use a "2 colours" sticker at the CU. Don't forget your

RCD warning sticker

T & I sticker

Labelling of MET.

I think i will sleeve. Can you enlighten me on the labelling.

The Garage Consumer Unit is on the non rcd side of the unit and the garage consumer unit has an RCD in it. Through much research i thought this was the way to do it?

T&I and MET labelling?

It is good practice to label the Main Earthing Terminal with a label such that you find on a bonding clamp.
You can also mark which conductors feed the gas, water, etc, if they are separate.

Thanks again

I have run bonding from the MET to the incoming water pipe and then without breaking the cable to my gas inlet after the meter. Thus i only have this 10mm earth run and 16mm to my consumer unit in the MET block.

Just waiting for the DNO to come and upgrade the theirs to 16mm and the tails to 25mm. DNO wiring loos shocking now compare to the nice new cabling!!

Great advice again, maybe i will post some pics of my install when i have finished. Hopefully show a good DIY install although i am sure ther will be plenty for you experienced sparks to pull apart.

The DNO will most probably ask for a Completion Certificate. Have you filled one out?

Have you done any test & inspect?

Well, inspecting isn't a problem, their is hardly any floorboards left at the moment.

It has not been tested yet as i have not finished the re-wire yet.

Have i got no chance of DNO doing their stuff. Maybe if i don't show him/her anywhere except the understairs cupboard where the meter is he/she won't realise any change has bee made? :D
