Hi, I want to install 2 FCU's for a washer and dishwasher but have only 1 single socket to do it from. Is the best solution to spur another single socket off the original socket and then wire a FCU to each single socket? Thanks.
You can NOT wire two FCU's to a single socket outlet, nor can you wire a single socket and then a further two FCU's...
You should extend the circuit from that single socket to incorporate the FCU's (assuming it isn't a spur already...) How many cables are at the single socket and what fuse/MCB rating is the circuit connected to back at the consumer unit?
A washing machine and dishwasher are going to take quite a load and if you may need them both on at the same time then a spur isn't really a good idea.
A ring or radial circuit with Spurs if any, feeds an unlimited number of socket-outlets and fused connection units depending on floor area:
30/32 amp ring 100m squared 2.5 T&E
30/32 amp radial 75m squared 4mm T&E
20 amp Radial 50 squared 2.5 T&E.
It then goes onto say Sockets for washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers should be located so as to provide reasonable sharing of the load in each leg of the ring, or consideration should be given to a seperate circuit.
