1st check the float valve in the cws it may need a new diaphragm.

2nd. has the shower always been like this or just started ?

tell your friend its nothing to do with the height of the cylinder, the cylinders fed from the cws so it depends on the height of that.

Answer 1. Replace washer in ballvalve on cold water storage tank.
Answer 2. Proberbly not enough head between shower and cold water storage tank.
Answer raise tank or pump hot or electric shower.
Does shower work if you lower shower head to floor level?

how would i go about replacing the washer ?

yes when i bring it down to the level of the taps it starts working fine, so i would need to put a pump in or elevate the cws ?

it maybe working ok but the diaphragms get old and go hard.

wheres the hot pipe to shower fed from on the cylinder it maybe air in the pipe.
can be the shower filters are getting blocked.

i take it don't run off a pump just gravity.

easier to fit a complete valve for what they cost.

you say the shower improves when you lower the showerhead.
if its air it should release it after running the shower for a while with the shower head in the bath.

how would i fix the diaphram then ?
its a vented cylinder and the feed is tee'd off on the vent..the pressure on the taps is fine but just the shower is terrible.. i dont know if its a pump but theres a wee box thing that says scottish gas/power on it ?

you say its t off the vent pipe, then thats no good it will draw air from the cylinder.

best to supply a shower from a surrey, essex flange etc keeps it seperate from taps/vent.

or many are t'd from the vertical pipe from the cylinder but below where it t's not above the t where it go's to the loft.

ok i have no idea what ur talking about  but for the other question the noise that comes off the cws how would i replace is the diaphram is it simple enough ?

as i said for the sake of £5 change the whole valve.

just isolate your mains water and you can change the valve.
or you may have an isolation valve on the pipe near the float valve.

but don't let your friend loose on it.
