I'm making the kitchen/utility room into 1 large kitchen/diner when the walls were taken down the 2 concrete floor levels were slightly different approx 1.5". the higher floor is the old utility room (looks like floors were laid after walls were built) I want to tile the floor after new kitchen is fitted so need an even level. Is this possible by sand and cement screed or will i have to replace whole floor. If i screed the floor it would raise the floor level in the kitchen by approx 1.5" but would leave a step from the hallway would the screed be strong enough to have a small step into kitchen and support tiling afterwards? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks :)

i'd break out the floor in the utility and re-do that one instead.. if you have to screed anyway then why create problems with transitions if you don't have to..

will take that into consideration thanks but there's a gas pipe running under the floor and thought that might be the easiest and only solution without disrupting the gas (me and gas don't get along).
