We are fitting wardrobes to an 80s house we moved into last year. Having removed the ancient ‘robes there were four cables running down the corner of the wall.

One coax which is redundant.
Two twin & e which are redundant

And….. one twin and earth which is the supply to a room stat. OK but…. It is a three wire thermostat and they have used the earth cable as a phase conductor….

Could I fit a two wire thermostat to avoid having to run triple & earth?

Is thre anything I need to look out for if I do?
