The light is flashing and the little dashboard screen is advising to seek Nissan dealer assistance.

Faulty sensor perhaps?

Probably yes, on some cars the under seat connectors can become disturbed from hoovering etc so worth checking these first.

Have looked under the front seats.

A two wire plug that clips in at the front under the passenger is held by a nytie so obviously has had some attention.

I presume the wiring under the seats is for heating and to sense if someone is sitting there.

could be side airbags or seatbelt pre tensioners, either way they are very unreliable. Id try pulling the connector apart and reseating it first see what happens, ignition off of course.

My sister, who owns the car has arranged for her mate's garage to do a reset on the system - a five minute job apparently!

Nissan Primera airbag issues are common it seems.

She asked me to look at it when she was visiting at the weekend, hoping it was a loose connection.

As I mentioned, there had been some tapering with a plug under the passenger seat cause it was fixed in with a nytie.

If any part of the airbag system is tampered with - including disconnection - a fault code will be shown. This may self clear, but for sure in VAG's and some Mercs it doesn't.
Can't comment for Nissan!
John :)
