Sounds like alcathene, you need to get the exact outside diameter and then visit your plumbing merchants and get a fitting to repair it-where is it leaking from?

it has a small pin hole about 30 mm below stop cock ,making a right mess too.
managed to get a bit of rubber hose an jubilee clip on it

In that case you will need to get an adaptor that goes from black alcathene to 15mm copper-probably 25mm alcathene but make sure you measure it,then it would be best to put a new 15mm stop valve in and connect back to your existig pipework.

Any coloured stripes on the pipe? This will classify the wall thickness of the pipe.

The pipe will be ¾" polythene, which has an OD of 27mm. If you can turn off the water upstream of the leak you could cut out the pin-holed section and refit the stop tap and liner to the new, undamaged end.

thanks for all the tips lads, i cut out a section of pipe and took it to the local plumb centre turned out to be 27mm black alkathene.
the guy behind the counter gave me a push on fitting to take me from the 27mm alkathene to 22mm copper , got to say had my doubts but it worked a treat.
cheers all :p
