28mm 3 port valves are still available,looks like you have bought one for 22 mm pipework.
Is it that the new one valve doesn't fit the old pipework and maybe the nuts? Are the pipe ends too long or too short to make the fitting?
The new one looks like 22mm, so take it back and swap it for a 28mm. You could take the old one to check the dimensions are the same, so it will fit OK, but I'd be surprised if it's any different.

The nuts for the new valve are clearly stamped or cast DANFOSS 28 MM to my poor old eyes. Body has HSV3B28 marked on it as well.
Old valve is a different brand or older iteration of the valve brassware casting?
So, to me, it seems Madrab's question needs answering.
I'd also ask if there are any maker marks on the old valve (other side) or even the nuts to help identify it.
