Looking for some advice!

We have a 13 yr old Vaillant Eco Tech 37kw (I think!) boiler. House is big and draughty with single glazed sashes/high ceilings, etc. The thermostat is a 392f Vaillant.

Last Winter the thermostat screen went completely blank and the heating wouldn't then turn on and off on the timer - we had the pcb(?) board replaced in the boiler in Feb 2023 as the bloke we had out said it looked like something had blown on it.

The heating system worked okay for a bit but when we switched the heating off in April this year, the thermostat screen was blank again. We need to sort this out as we're now heading into the Winter and our house is pretty cold even in the summer. I put the heating on manually on Sunday and it worked okay - was on for about ten hours and probably cost me a fortune - but it is not connecting up to the still-blank thermostat. And yes, have tried changing the batteries.

My questions are:

1) Is this likely to be a thermostat or a boiler problem?
2) If it is thermostat, what is a good reliable replacement that will work with the boiler? And how difficult is it to get a new one to connect up?
3) Is a 13 year old boiler likely to be coming to the end of its life? Could this be the board again in the boiler - it's only 18 months since it was replace. If the boiler does need replacing, what's an efficient system boiler for a big freezing solid walled house with single glazed sash windows?

Any advice very gratefully received.

Quick look at the 392f Vaillant thermostat, and it says
The VRT 392f can be part of a new heating and hot water system or it can be incorporated into existing heating systems. The appliance must have an eBUS interface.
and this is the rub, ebus control is far better to on/off control, but as to what your options are to repair it, only a Vaillant trained engineer can tell you.
