I have a 3ft height single skin brick wall in my back garden. Currently it has those patterned concrete block for another 3ft high. I want to remove the concrete blocks and replace them with close board fencing panels.
There are substantial and stable brick piers (6ft high) approx every 13 ft, so I would only need 2 panels, 3ft high between them. So fixing each end would be simple and stable drilling wall plates into the piers and the panels into those. However, they would require 1 post in the middle between panels. I have seen wall anchors that let you fix a 3in post into the top of the brick (ensuring to drill more than one course down) but also go 4 or 5 courses down one side to reduce the pressure on the top course of brick.
Given the relatively small span between brick pillars and the relatively low fence height, plus the one post anchors to several courses of brick down in the middle, what are people's thoughts on how secure this will be?
I know people will suggest fitting a post next to the wall right into the ground, but such a post sticking out will be ugly, so I would rather avoid if possilbe.
I'd appreciate people's views.
Cheers,
David (aka regdorp)
