Hi all,

Firstly, this is my first post hopefully of many. I hope to learn a lot here.

I have taken on a house project for the winter. being a landscape gardener I am very handy but this is my first inside job.

I am about to knock through from the kitchen to the lounge, the joists run over the wall and its a 3 metre gap to span. I am a little unsure about the propping method. As it is an internal wall can i just use 4 strong boys as opposed to needles and 8 props? The wall does support a wall above which in turn supports the roof joists.

Prop the joists which will hold the wall. No needles required

Strong-boys wont support the floor joists

Possibly, if you use a chunky piece of timber across the joists

But when removing structural walls and supporting part of the house "can I get away with" is not really the correct way to be thinking

If the joists are separate, then you should use 3 props per side. If the joists are one piece, then 3 close to the wall will do
