I'm trying to track down some black electric cable with the above specification and I'm not having much luck. The sticking point seems to be the 6mm outer material diameter of the cable. Everything seems to be 8mm or above and, though it's only 2mm, that's too big for my needs.

Does anyone know where I might be able to buy some cable like this at a reasonable price? i.e. not a 100m spool! I didn't think I'd have this much trouble tracking a cable like this down. I have a lot of electronics which have that diameter so the cable size does exist, somewhere!?

Any help much appreciated.

electric cable is sized by conductor size and insulation/voltage rating, not outer diameter.

So what do you need it for?

Thanks for the replies everyone. The 4 core cable is to carry 9v ac and 5dc to an old computer. The reason for the thickness requirement is mainly because the din connector's gland only accepts diameters up to 6mm. However, there's also the fact that 8mm+ thick cables are quite stiff and not flexible enough for this type of use.

I'm really only looking for around 5m at this point, 10 max and preferably Black. The 50m Lapp cable from RS looks like it will fit the bill, but at £35 it's too expensive given my needs right now.

The Zexum from Electrical World looks perfect only not in Black, typical! It's only an aesthetic point, but if at all possible Black or at least Grey would be preferable. In the absence of any alternative I may end up having to go with the Zexum, but if anyone knows of some black cabling which fits my needs, please do suggest some. Again, I'm really surprised I'm having such trouble tracking down what I thought would be pretty standard cable.

fits my needs

Unfortunately we still don't know your needs, until you answer....

current will use this?

Here's some 5 core stranded by the metre, spare core I know, conductors are 0.3mm², but exactly 6mm OD...

Cat5e is 8 core and 5.5 or 6mm OD usually, available in black by the metre cheaply, solid or stranded, you can just double up the conductors to make 0.4mm² per core, that's exactly how POE devices work.
