40^ roof with Arris hips

looking on fleabay at some reclaim yards near me I noticed arris hips are either advertised as 40^ or 45^.

I have dutifully created my small monopitch roof with a 40^ pitch on the rafters, but today when coming to set my hip beam in place realise that this is at a lesser angle due to being longer going towards the corner.

Please tell me the arris hip angles are talking about the general roof pitch rather than that of the hip beam.
