5A trailing sockets, economical sources found.

There have been a few posts on this forum over the years where the subject of 5A trailing sockets has come up. At the time my answer was that permaplug still seem to do them but finding a supplier that actually gave stock indications and had the ability to buy online was almost impossible.

Anyway much to my surprise when browsing my new CPC catalogue (searching for 5A BS546 on CPCs site didn't and still doesn't find them) I found them listed, price was kinda high though. http://cpc.farnell.com/masterplug/els5b/trailing-socket-5a-3-pin-round/dp/PL14140 . What was more interesting though was that they listed a manufacturers part number (something I had not previously been able to track down).

I googled the part number and found that a couple of vendors I have used in the past for computer related stuff had them at far more reasonable prices.

Cant say I have ever seen or needed one in my whole career.

Where would you use them, I suppose 15amp ones possibly used for stage lighting

I've had occasion where I've thought 'I wish I had a trailing 5a socket' but I cannot for the life of me remember when or why.

Presumably to use as an extension lead from 5a sockets on lighting circuits (still one of my favourite things that I don't think is done enough)

5A were/are used for smaller stage lighting in schools etc.

Now if you can find some 2A ones they'll come in handy for my 100 V line system

We use 5A round on some lights where there is a need to unplug them above and lower them down, like the chandelier on only fools and horses!
A trailing socket is useful to work on them at ground level.
