5w40 for 1.2 8V Punto

2002 reg with 120k miles done.

Next oil change I'm going to change from 10w40 to 5w40 to give better cold start lubrication.

I was going to put 5w30 in but it seems the tappets need the slightly thicker oil at working temp.

Is there any harm using diesel engine oil such as Quantum Platinum?

Quantum is good quality oil and a good price.

I think you will find the platinum 5 w 40 is just a generic fully synthetic oil suitable for petrol engines. Its just marketed as suitable for pd engines etc.

What oils does the owner's manual recommend? That must be the first question.

Depending on the climate, the handbook says 5w30 or 10w40.

With 5w40, the engine gets the best of both worlds. Good cold engine cranking and good operating temperature viscosity.

The Platinum is stock by VW so obviously good quality.
