Hi, looking to install an alarm, probably a Texecom, trying to get all the bits together, just wondering if I need a 6 or 8 wire alarm cable please?

When would I need 8 wires please? The cost is about 10 pounds more for the 8 wire.

Thanks for any replies.

hi
99% of the time you only need 6 core if your not using an eol ( end of line resitor) system!
but i always install 8 core, if a fault ever occcurs, you will have a spare 2 wires!..... or if you wanted to ad a divice! ;)

ow yes go for the veritas r8! sound domestic panel

Hi Alpha Alarms,

Thanks for your reply, for the extra few quid 8 core if probably worth it then. The panel I'm looking at is a Veritas R8 Plus, which supports EOL I think. Need to do some research on EOL!

Thanks again

EOL is a more secure way of wiring, and also allows you to run devices on less cores than normal, so if you install 8 core, you are covered for everything :D

Oh, and another vote for texecom from me:cool:

EOL uses a pair for power and pair for alarm AND tamper. You could Therefore use 4 core, although you would be foolish to.

You could use 6 core to provide two zones using EOL. For example, you have two detectors back to back on a wall a long distance from the panel. Run a single cable, use 1 pair for the power, and then one pair for each detector using EOL.

It's not usually worth it unless the cable run is long and difficult, it's just lazy otherwise!

And yup, for a DIY install, a Texecom Veritas will suit. The PLUS allows you to upgrade the keypad too I recall?

Most helpful chaps! Thanks for the replies. It would be a DIY install, so I think it will be a Texecom Excell with the easier keypad for programming etc.

Is it possible to wire up two working alarm boxes, looking at buying Odyssey 5.

Thanks.

You can have two external sounders, one in SAB and one in SCB mode (the texecom manual describes how to connect them). If you want both in SAB mode you may need an additional PSU.

texecom++

Great! I think I'll install the SAB at the front and the SCB at the back, therefore, if the battery doesn't last long it won't matter so much at the back of the house.

Cheers.
