60 Amp Main Fuse

Just removing an existing electric shower (in the house when purchased) and whilst removing the 6mm wiring noticed that the Main Elec Co Fuse is only 60 AMP.

I assume this is going to be a problem as I intend to install a new Electric shower (9 or 10KW) which I wanted to run of of a http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?ts=12835&id=10911
or a consumer unit with RCD to create a split load from the old wylex CU.

The question is will the 60 AMP main fuse be up to the job ?, If not can it be replaced

it depends on the size of your incoming cable, you would have to ask your supplier as it is they who would uprate the fuse.

Just had a closer look (opened the other side of the cupboard Doh!) and realised that the company fuse is a 100 Amp and that the 60 Amp is after the meter.

The switch/fuse? is an Ottermill Type D 60 Amp with a large yellow button marked "Push to test". Is this an RCD ?.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks for the help guys,

I assume that this is good news and there is no need for me to install extra RCD/seperate shower CU ?. I will probably just upgrade the cartridge fuses to the mini MCB types from screwfix.
