One quick question, is it acceptable to use 6mmsq for a 9.5KW shower?

the simple answer to your question is yes. 6mmsq is acceptable for a 9.5KW shower, however this is the max. 10sq is NOT required here but for anything significantly above 9.5KW it is.

Surely it depends on the cable run? Just thinking, what if the shower is a long way from the CU?

How long a run does it need to be before you have to use 10mm?

'bout 30m.

But 6mm for a 9k5 shower is borderline anyway, for any length, depending on how it's installed..

Yeah, 6 has a max rating of 46A Method 1, ie clipped direct, and a VD factor of 7.3, so 31m ish is max, but that does not take account of any correction factors, grouping, temp, etc.. or if you have a BS3036 (rewireable) fuse.

AND

You have to check that your CU and supply are up to it. If your unit has a main switch less than 100A and or a main service fuse of less than 100A then you need to upgrade. REC will help if main fuse/meter need changing.

Also, you need to update your earth bonding, both main and supplementary.
