I watched a documentary about the Lancaster bomber today, and in archive footage, the dam busters Lancasters had 4 engines, but in the building of the bomber aeroplane built, only had two engines...

How many engines did the Lancaster bomber have? Or were special editions made?

Because not many looked like the Airfix model I made, with an undertray bombing area, the turrets are on top, or an aft bombing section?

So was the documentary pro propoganda?

As far as I know ,, the Lancaster Bomber had four engines. I think that after WW2 there was one/two used as a test bed for jet engines (further research required) Usually Rolls Royce Merlin engines, but not exclusively.
Apparently the Canadian Forest Fire Service still use a few of these.

The Lancaster had four engines. The Manchester had two.

Eh?

The Avro Lancaster had four engines. The Avro Manchester, it's immediate predecessor, and more or less the same design, had two engines. Footage could be mixed up, or they may have been explaining the origins of the Lancaster.

On old footage the Lancaster has 2 engines, in other old footage, it has 4 engines, are you an expert, I'm pointing out what I saw!

And I'm attempting to explain it. The Lancaster is essentially a four-engined Manchester. The footage could've been mixed up, or perhaps they were showing the Manchester while explaining the history. No Lancaster was ever built with two engines. They were specifically built because two Merlins were not powerful enough, and the Vulture was an unreliable pile of junk.

Nice one to an admin to alter my post and post what I didn't post.
