A few droppings in the loft: could this be rat or squirrel?

I found a few droppings in the loft, not many though, and they're totally dried up. No sign of anything chewed, thankfully. I gathered them all up and took these pictures.

From what I learned on Google, they're too big for a mouse. We do have squirrels in the neighbourhood so maybe it's one of those, or am I dealing with a rat?

Any advice gratefully received.

The number of times I've been in lofts to measure for a conversion, and before going up the ladder, the householder says:

"Oh, by the way, you might see some bait up there - we've had squirrels in the roof!"

No-one wants to say "we've had rats in the roof"; 'squirrels' sounds so much nicer and middle-class; only scruff get rats in the roof (apparently).
