Hi,

I'm decking over an existing concrete patio. It's roughly 5x4m and i've got 10 5.4m lengths of 4x2 ready to make the frame (joists to go down the long). I'm using 90mm hardwood deck boards and would like to know:

- is 60cm joist spacing OK?

- i'm fastening the joists to the house using rawl plugs to avoid any damp penetrating and putting a metal nail plate on the end so no wood to masonry risk - is this worth the hassle (mainly because i can't see my DPC).

- any need for noggins along the joists ie is lateral stabilty an issue here....i have heard of bolting to the pavers but it this overkill? (there will of course be a long joist across the ends)

many thanks.

400mm spacings

use thrubolts/rawlbolts to fix to the wall. no you dont need to worry about dpc

the weight of the deck will hold it in place, so no need to secure it to the floor
