Hi all,

Currently doing the bedroom and wife wants this dressing table:

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80106502

Problem is its 1900mm wide and the space we have is 1200mm, is it possible to cut veneer or will the finished product look crap.

Jus wondering if its possible to cut the draw and table top down to fit the space.

well its a job i would and can do
but there again i have a mitre saw with fine blade a router and the confidence to cut the veneere off the end and glue it back on the top and drawer end ;)

if you have a electic mitre saw with fine blade and a router then you can probably get a reasonable finnish if your skilled enough

hi,this could work out to be a freeby,b&q do a cutting service, the 1st four cuts are free, take apart the unit, take it to b&q give the cutter your sizes, done.

I'm sure they'd be only too glad to cut material you hadn't bought from them.

I dont think they will either, just not sure I want to spend £90 on the unit and risk ruining it by trying to trim it down, wouldnt the veneer split as it was cut would cutting it by a hand saw give a better finish? I have a skill saw but I wouldnt say the blade was a fine cut

Big-all I just tried sending you a message but couldnt as we're not friends, I'll add you as a friend as I wanted to proposition you so to speak

As Big-all says, it may be possible to do this, if you have a suitable fine-toothed blade, the right equipment and skill.

However, I think it's unlikely to work, for this reason: much of Ikea furniture is constructed from hollow panels with solid edging of some kind. You could find that supplying a new edging after you've cut the panel would be more trouble than it's worth.
