A PIR that very quickly became a visual condition report....

It soon became obvious that rather than carrying out any testing on the 4 flats, it would be easier to do some visual condition reports and recommend rewiring....

for some reason I have managed to loose half the pics, such as some old 6mm T+E submain from a brand new wylex 60amp sw fuse, a 10mm T+E for a shower directly from the incoming terminals of a 4 way wylex rewireable CU, very badly perished VIR cables in terminal blocks to brand new T+E, 6mm cooker cable jointed with terminal blocks to some 1.5mm to a downflow heater in the bathroom....the list is almost endless.

Seems a decorator has been doing some work over the years saying he is capable. You decide!

10mm T+E fed from a 60amp sw-fuse in the room above feeding this antequated setup.

SWA installed a couple weeks ago by a sparky who has rewired one of the flats already.

Two gang switch switching two lights - oddly, they could have used one core as a feed for both switches....

A pet hate - spair conductors cut back, earth cut off.

and the blanking plates fixed in with caulk

They would probably be more secure than the crap blanks you get from wholesalers. Might start using a lil bit o silcone to secure blanks better in future!! Top tip!

You obviously buy tat from a tat 'wholesaler' ;)

Edmundsons and Senate locally. Many blanking plates are easy to dislodge I find. Some, can't recall which, are more rigid, where you have to remove the front cover to get them on or off. But many are indeed naff.

The other type which just clip in are useless, and should not be sold, as they can easily be removed without tools.

Well, we all know that 'down is on', don't we? - the manufacturer's must have got it wrong :) ... can't say I've ever tried, but I would have guessed that the terminal wouldn't line up with the busbar when installed upside down - I guess I was wrong (or did they bend the busbar 'to suit'?!)

Kind Regards, John.

I agree, surely there is an applicable BS(en) they should adhere to.

Cheers for that flame, I have never actually seen the type you linked before. The ones I meant are same shape/size as the naff ones but better quality; you have to take cover off and slide the plate in place one side at a time due to notches in them.

I will, however, invest in an assortment of the linked ones as they actually look safe!

Ta.

I've no experience of the other makes, but, in my experience, it can be a fight to get the Wylex ones onto a DIN rail, and even more of a fight to get them off - anyone else experienced that?

Kind Regards, John.
