We are stripping the old bathroom completely, back to bare shell and having a total refit.
We live in a bungalow so all ground level. Base floor is concrete, sound and dry.
We want to have a 'soft to feel' vinyl type floor covering, not the harder vinyl or tiles/laminate. Son has some in their house that is warm to walk on and has a very soft feel underfoot, almost a 'brushed' surface rather than the traditional shine. It was laid from a roll, not tiles or strip flooring.
As it will be over a smooth, cold concrete floor should there be an underlay of some sort to offer a little thermal protection and soften the floor. Thinking of only 1mm or 2mm thickness, the foam type found on ebay… or would something else be better.. or no underlay at all ?
Google opinions seem very varied so any flooring expert who would care to comment would be appreciated or what other experiences others have had in a similar situation.
Many Thanks.
Brian.
