I'm off to Rome for a few days in a couple of weeks, well the Pope didn't come see me, so I may as well visit him, to voice my disapproval.
Any way the point is, I know the city has plenty of history and some top sight seeing places to visit, so I will get roped into them. So anyone been recently that could offer sound advise, on places to see and be seen.
I'm there for four days so likely to be 3 days sight seeing. Then I'm off to Manchester!

Son came back recently. had a great time which was occaisionally marred by Gypsy pickpockets and hustlers who work in teams. Found them quite intimidating

You must go to see the obvious places, The Vatican, the Colosseum, The Forum, The Sistine Chapel etc. Expect very long queues for The Vatican and The Sistine Chapel. I don't recall queing for The Colosseum.
There's also The Trevi Fountain, La Piazza Navona, Il Panteon (The Pantheon)
All of the above places are quite close to each other and you should be able to walk round them. The tour buses do a circuit of the city and also have a little free map of the city which is quite useful.
Also worth a look is the flea market at Porta Portese, it's like a huge car boot sale.

Visited Rome about two years ago and can recommend these people for your tour to the Vatican

Also visit the Roman Forum, which is a spit from the Coloseum and we found so much better.

Avoid the cafes on the main streets as these are really expensive.
As said before, Trevi fountain etc are great to visit - I'll have a look when I get the chance to find the other things that we visited. Go for long walks and enjoy - Rome is lovely :D

A good restaurant, not far from the Vatican just found. Trattoria da Luigi in Piazza Sforza Ceasarini. Excellent tucker and reasonable price too :D
The bus service is good, but sometimes full.
A few more just found - Piazza Navona, the Pathenon and Castel Sant Angelo. I'm not religious, but have a look inside some of their many churches ( remember the dress code )
For the life of me I can't remember the Piazza close to Trevi that is full of artists.
