how do i get rid off the number as it serves no purpose
you would expect to get pictures in there dont need to know how many there are ??

It is indicating how many you have yet to view. On the navigation when viewing media, there is a link 'Mark viewed' which goes here:

//www.diynot.com/diy/media/categories/-/mark-viewed

That resets things.

When more media is added, this number will re-appear. If you don't want to see it ever then you can change your user preferences :

//www.diynot.com/diy/account/preferences

About halfway down look for 'Display unviewed media count above navigation tab' and untick it.
