ABS problem

Hi , i have a 1997 golf TDI and the ABS light is on since 2 days ago.

At one point for a matter of seconds it felt i lost braking altogether!!

Does anyone have any ideas of what this problem could be?

So rather than sensing the urgency of the problem and driving it straight to the nearest garage, you drive it home and post on an internet forum about it . . . . No, I cant see the logic. Sorry.

I was nearly home when it happened.

As i say has anyone encountered this before, or does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

you need to hook it up to the diagnostics machine to pin point the fault
