Anyone know if metal boxes are ok on hollow acoustic plasterboard walls?

2 layers of 15mm plasterboard each side, metal framework.

Thick insulation within walls.

Wooden noggins to be fitted to metal work.

Holes in metal boxes to be sealed up with caulk etc.

Sound is even more devious than water in finding routes from A to B.

Are the walls "proper" acoustic barriers, e.g. are they mounted on resilient fittings to the actual structure? Not that what you say makes any difference to what I can tell you except that it would be an indication that proper performance is required.

If it matters, I suggest you seek advice from people with real expertise, not the "it'll probably do" brigade, because if it matters and you **** it up you may regret it.

Yes, resilient fittings. Trying hard to get advice from people who know for sure.

Any breaching of the acoustic materials will compromise the performance of the installation which either has been or will be tested for compliance.

I suggest you should use surface mounted boxes so as to minimise any leakage and seal all cable holes, etc.
(I speak from having converted a building into flats that required acoustic walls/ceilings and the need to not damage the boarding and seal all joints/edges, etc)
