Asking this question for a friend.

Hes recently moved into a first floor flat in Aberdeen, and the flat currently has a Gas boiler but an electric cooker.

Since electric cookers are completely hopeless things, he wants to have a gas hob fitted.

Clearly there needs to be a new pipe run from the incoming gas pipe into the kitchen where the cooker resides, as this isnt currently present. This would be a straight run along one wall of about 2-3meters and would likely be a relatively cheap job and simple to have someone come and do it.

Someone has suggested to him however, that some new regulations mean that because the existing pipe feeding the boiler is only 22mm, he cannot have this T'ed into and run to the cooker. Instead he will have to replace the whole pipe run with a larger pipe. This is clearly a much bigger job, verging on the impossible.

Is this suggestion correct?

Hes had a look at the supply pipe to the boiler, and notes it reduces down to 15mm before it connects to the boiler itself, if this makes any difference?

Cheers
Kevin

This is not something that can be answered without looking at the property. It may be possible to tee off the 22 pipe but that depends on the size of the boiler and the length of the pipe run. You also need to look at the position, size and ventilation of the kitchen to see whether it's permissible to fit a gas hob.

Unfortunately it's not just a case of running a bit of pipe and fitting a hob.
