Hi all,

My parents need an extra 13 amp socket in the kitchen and the nearest electrics is from a wire coming out of the ceiling (presumably from the upstairs ring), that goes into an FCU then the boiler.

From what I've read it's fine to add to the load side of a fused spur, so I'm thinking of upgrading it to a 13 amp then have a junction go to the original FCU and into a new 13 amp capable socket.

Any issues with the above? Thanks in advance.

Will check before starting by tripping the upstairs power RCD as the lights are on a separate circuit.

Better would be if both FCU's were connected directly on the ring, rather than a 13amp fuse, feeding both the 3amp FCU and the socket.

From what you say about it being presumably from the upstairs ring (or radial) it might be the best idea.
I would advise though it is best to verify everything from the fuseway in the consumer unit right thru to the place you intend to make your connections (including cable sizes) just to see tgat there are no issues, a person or persons before you may have done something silly, it often happens so best checked.
